Welcome to 2019!

We hope you all had a refreshing break and are ready for all that 2019 may bring.

We wanted to let you know about some CPD we have arranged for the Spring term.

Most of you will be aware of how there is an increase in young people developing mental health problems while still at school. Last year, Mental Health UK introduced some new mental health training tailored towards young people at school. We agree that this is an area that is essential for all schools to have awareness of.

We have organised 2 different mental health training courses : a 1 day Youth Mental Health Champion course on 11th March, suitable for Teachers or TAs, and a 2 day Mental Health First Aider on 26th Feb & 12th March, suitable for SLT, Heads of Year, SENCos and HSLWs. We have managed to negotiate a competitive rate for schools for these courses, which is below the current market rate. If you are interested in these courses see the links here 1 day Youth MHFA Champion course and 2 day Mental Health First Aider.

We are running 2 twilight sessions doing a Leadership Resilience Workshop on 14th Feb & 14th March. These are led by Davd Gumbrell who set up The Resilience Project in conjuction with Kingston University. He was also a Head Teacher and works with staff at all levels to help them develop resilience in their workplaces. See link here for more details Leadership Resilience Workshop.

We have also set up a NQT+1/+2 Development Programme, which is 3 twilight sessions in the Spring / Summer term. This is for teachers in their second or third year of teaching in Primary or Secondary schools and builds on their existing knowledge.  It can be booked onto as a programme of 3 sessions or individually. See link here for more details NQT+1/+2 Development Programme.

For those who work in school offices, we will be running again our very popular Medication Awareness in Schools on 5th February. This provides all staff who handle and adminster medicines with some invaluable training by professionals from the pharmaceutical industry.

This term also sees the start of our very successful Sportshall Events at the Spectrum. For more details on these events, please see the link here.

We hope 2019 gets off to a great start for you. Do drop us a line with any queries at info@guildfordschoolsconfederation.co.uk.
